Alessi was founded in 1921 by Giovanni Alessi, the grandfather of the current owner. Then, the company's main goal was to produce hand-crafted items with the aid of machines. A decade later, Giovanni's son Carlo Alessi joined the team, and trained as an industrial designer, he was the creator of all the output the company produced between 1935 and 1945. When he took over the company, he made the desicion of hiring freelance designers to work for his company.
Now, the company's current owner Alberto Alessi, who joined the team in 1970's, uses external designers as a key differentiator for the company, and has made Alessi one of the most important manufacturers of designer kitchen and tableware in the world today.
