Marimekko is a Finnish design company based in Helsinki whose first important contributions to fashion started in the 1960s and 1970s. They are particularly noted for brightly-coloured printed fabrics and bold black-and-white contrasts, used both in women's garments and in home furnishings.
Their simple but yet very distinctive designs come from a mix of emotions; whether its joy, calm or silence - every emotion inspires them differently. Marimekko celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2012 in Helsinki.
